Tips & Tricks on How to use Google Adsense

Posted on March 20, 2009 by admin

Google Adsense, as most people know, is one of the most reputed internet advertising programs around.  Their program delivers relevant text and image ads that are precisely targeted to a site and its content, allowing webmasters to use portions of their sites as virtual billboards:

With the Google AdSense program, a website can easily be used to generate advertising revenue creating a win-win situation for both advertisers and webmasters.

Webmaster Guidelines…

However, before you start using the Google AdSense program you must check the suitability of Google AdSense for your website.  Your site must “add value and provide unique content”.  Also, it must not violate any of Google’s webmaster guidelines.  These guidelines pertain to Design, Content, Quality and Technical concerns.  Visit  Google Webmaster Central for more info on Webmaster Guidelines.

TIP: Try to strike a balance between making your site about a topic/s you enjoy and making sure the topic/s have enough of an ad inventory. For example, you may be dying to make a website about Dancing Nuns, but the pool of advertisers for that subject is likely to be small, if anything at all.

Advertising Experience…

You do not need any experience to use Google Adsense.  Their program offers earning opportunity to every webmaster who has a site which follows the Adsense guidelines and policies.  Also, you don’t need to know anything about advertising or advertising media.  Simply enroll with the Google AdSense program and, if your site is approved, Google will guide you through the process of designing the Ads and they will start serving the relevant Ads on your website within minutes!

TIP: If you’re building a new site, wait to put Adsense on it until it’s finished. You may even want to wait until you have built inbound links and start getting traffic.

Finding advertisers…

It used to be that webmasters would have to wait until an advertiser bought advertising space on their website, but with the Google Adsense, there is no need to look for advertisers- they take care of that.  Whats great about the Google AdSense program, is that webmasters can start earning revenue from the day they implement the Google AdSense program into their website.  As the traffic to their website increases, so does their revenue.

Ad placement…

When placing ads on your site, try not to go overboard.  There is a fine line between putting some helpful content-relevant ads on your site and bombarding visitors with ad after ad.  If you are not sure of where to place your ads, you may want to try modeling your site on another, more established site.  The successful sites put a lot of thought into ad placement.  Google has even published some “heat maps”, which indicate the optimal locations for ad placement.

Tracking your revenue…

Tracking revenue couldn’t be easier with Google AdSense.  They take care of tracking the revenue that you earn from the Ads on your website.  Just login to your Google AdSense account and you can check your earnings. Google also provides you with various reports and statistics that you can use for enhancing the performance of your website.

The Google AdSense program has made it quite easy to use that extra space on your website for earning revenue.  Just make sure to follow the webmaster guidelines and try to tap into a niche that has a large advertising pool.
